Celebrated poet and professor Derek Sheffield is Washington’s eighth state poet laureate. He teaches poetry, nature writing, and ecoliterature at Wenatchee Valley College and has published several prize-winning collections, including Cascadia Field Guide, Not for Luck, and Dear America. He lives near Leavenworth, Washington, and edits poetry for Terrain.org.

Derek will be joined by Antonio López. Antonio De Jesús López is the Poet Laureate of San Mateo County, California, and a 2026 Poet Laureate Fellow of the Academy of American Poets. He is the author of Gentefication (Four Way Books), selected by Gregory Pardlo for the Levis Prize in Poetry, and The Right to Remain Violets, forthcoming from the University of Arizona Press. A former mayor and councilmember of East Palo Alto, he holds a PhD from Stanford, was a Marshall Scholar at Oxford, and teaches poetry inside San Mateo County's jails.
